Four Months
03:32
|
|||
Salt caked on the windshield
snowy Appalachian hills
sleepy houses lay abandoned
in the waning afternoon
It's been four months since I've seen you
and I've forgotten how it feels
but I'm coming out to hold you
and I swear I'll be there soon
And everything will be alright
and everything will be alright
and everything will be alright
Kindling stacked up on the front stoop
silent treading down the drive
your eyes tell me that you've missed me
like your texts did every night
For the first few hours it's awkward
nervous giggles, tender stares
but before long we'll remember
all the secrets saved to share
And everything will be alright
and everything will be alright
and everything will be alright...
Everything will be alright.

Missing You (1)

Knots return to shoulders
steely air, dull grey light
Mustn't leave a gap in the covers, dear
better if we stay tucked tight
Cry with me on the carpet
when the movies get too real
Cannot say I've ever felt so alive
too full-up to conceal
I can take care of you always
I am here
Many miles of cold, hard highways
are but a blink
to me
And I can tell you're getting nervous
well that's okay, cuz I am too
Six months distant, that's a long time
to be apart from you
But we've done this before
and we'll do this again
We'll do this again
It comes in tiny instants
in-between the words exchanged
in secret glimpses filed away
and carefully arranged
It comes like bits of poetry
as words fall into place
hushed and cautious, rushed and raucous
I'll repeat them just in case
I will take care of you always
I am here
Many hours above the clouds
are but a blink
to me

Missing You (2)

But we won't be
living together
for about
a year or so
and that's a long time
so we steel ourselves
to watch the distance
grow
A steely tension
when I mention it
Yes dear,
I feel it too
cannot face the silent whisperings
that slink in from the blue
But we won't be
seeing each other
face to face
And that's a hard thing
to swallow
I don't like the way it tastes
(when I'm missing you)
I'll be patient
I'll be stable, steady, strong
but I'll be sad
Still it's one year
and we've done four whole months before
So I think a year
can't really be that bad
(when I'm missing you)

Missing You (3)

She cried tonight, you know
but she looks happy when she's sleeping
she's got some moments worth the weeping
she's got some smiles left in reserve
She's off in Germany
but she's still in my thoughts this evening
which aren't so bleak as they were seeming
before she called around the curve
I'll wait til Saturday
or Sunday
or Monday
weeks and months can feel like
one day
when I'm thinking of you
So don't you worry
bout the distance
in this trust:
I'll be there before you've missed us
and the skies will turn
blue
She's got the right idea
and she feels better when she's moving
learning growing, quickly proving
she's come so far across the clouds
She's got a new facade
and it's got open doors and windows
flags that flutter when the wind blow
lights that wipe away my doubts
As time goes on we get more confident
(that its all that's left
darling this is all we ever need
anyway)
Through window panes and planes
(it's all a ruse, I'm right here with you
and you best believe
that I'm here to stay)
I'll keep my promises
it's what I said
look ahead
you know I'll be there to kiss you red
and turn things around
So don't you worry
bout the time
things are fine
in this new sense of
divine true belonging we've
found

Irving & The Axolotls Cleveland, Ohio
Loren and I are friends from Cleveland, Ohio. We've worked with each other (and other friends too!) to make music as a hobby for several years now. These projects are mostly for fun, but they also provide a great outlet for us to share and discuss music with other friends and archive the stuff we've worked on. ... more
